Come take a break among the trees at the House of Welcome with Janice Arnold’s Homage to the Forests installation. On view Monday - Friday, 9-5pm from now till Dec 12, 2025.

Wool Exploration Day!

Kids of all ages can experience the amazing transformation of fibers to fabric with this globally recognized artist. Learn the science of wool and the chemistry of creating fabric using only your bare hands! Play with a giant Rainbow Art Parachute, made at the museum during Janice Arnold’s last residency at HOCM, and be a part of new feltmaking surprises she has in store.

Free with admission or membership. Online reservations recommended. Get tickets.

Homage to the Forests, Artist Reception

Please join us for a reception and short artist talk about the textile installation Homage to the Forests at the s'gʷi gʷi ʔ altxʷ: House of Welcome. Arnold will share images, remarks and answer questions about inspiration and unusual explorations inspired by the tree bark which she refers to as “Tree Skins”.

Artist remarks at 6:00 PM

The s'gʷi gʷi ʔ altxʷ: House of Welcome is on the campus of the Evergreen State College and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9-5pm. They will be available for hugging through Dec 12, 2025.

Inaugural FELT Road Talk + Activity

Join artist Janice Arnold for a presentation and hands-on workshop sharing the tradition of Felt-making through time and across cultures, with a focus on Continental Asia. You will learn about the Indigenous nomadic origins of Felt and her work through The FELT Road. The presentation will be followed by an introductory wet-felting project that explores the art and sciences of felted wool.
