The Language of Wool: Stories, Rituals, and Discoveries. Janice Arnold on the Road to Felting

  • Museo delle Civiltà 14 Piazza Guglielmo Marconi Roma, Lazio, 00144 Italy (map)

This lecture offers a fascinating journey through Janice Arnold 's 26 years of artistic research and experimentation , a journey of passion, curiosity, and discovery. The artist leads us through the stories, myths, and mysteries of traditional felt , beginning with its places of origin—Central Asia and Mongolia—and continuing to other parts of the world, demonstrating how these elements continue to profoundly influence her work. Through her work, Janice Arnold explores the rituals, processes, and philosophies embedded in this ancient nonwoven fabric , specific to the indigenous cultures that have preserved the art of felt for centuries. This ancient material, still considered sacred and "living," is transformed in her hands into an expressive medium capable of uniting eras, peoples, and meanings.

These experiences have traced the path that led her to become a true “ambassador” for wool in the world and founder of The FELT Road , an organization born with the aim of promoting greater knowledge, respect and appreciation for this humble but extraordinary material, endowed with a powerful “soft power” and the ability to create deep connections between communities.
