To build a global community with wool
We are committed to honoring the Indigenous Nomadic origins of Felt in Central Asia and Mongolia as a living art form and enduring social fabric. We strive to foster understanding, appreciation, and respect for the integrity of this traditional textile and the makers around the world. Through interactive art, education, masterclasses, and community experiences, we strive to promote a deeper understanding of the science, art, and history of wool and Felt.

our vision
The FELT Road is a parallel concept to the construct of “The Silk Road” and focuses on acknowledging the ubiquity of Felt making traditions, which, throughout history, have connected communities and regions before political boundaries. It is a way to trace the influence of Felt through time, place, and cultures as well as consider the impact it continues to have globally.

“Feltmaking offers a universal metaphor for our times. Wispy individual fibers of wool felted together - with many hands working - create a strong textile.
Like the Felt, we become stronger working together.”
- Janice Arnold

The FELT Road is based in Olympia, Washington, USA, and also shares a studio with JA FELT in the Historic Grand Mound School in Grand Mound, Washington, USA.
